BSc Computer Systems Engineering

Introduction and aims

The 1st cycle in Computer Systems Engineering is adapted to the Bologna declaration and to the ECTS credit system and has a length of three years and 180 ECTS credits. The aim is to educate and form specialists in the areas of Information Technologies (IT) and Information Systems (IS) who are able to understand and respond to current challenges inside organizations raised by the shift to the Information Society. It is required that an engineer is able to analyse and solve problems while taking into account technical, economical and social criteria. This programme aims at educating such professionals, who will be able to know how to decide in such ways so to respect the balance among development and the use of technology and its ethical and social impact.

Objectives and competences

This programme is composed of a complete, balanced and updated body of knowledge which enables future professionals to analyse and solve practical issues, providing the competences and the flexibility required to act in a globalised and constantly changing market, where innovation is a key aspect to success.

Therefore, this programme provides a level of education oriented towards the profession, introducing concepts and themes related to both introductory and advanced knowledge in Information Technologies and Information Systems, in such a way to enable future professionals to possess the following competences:

1.    To be able to apply knowledge and integrate the labor market in the professional areas of Data Communications Engineering, Software and Application Development, Software Architecture and Design, Multimedia Design and Systems Specialist.

2.    To be able to solve concrete issues related to the design, development and management of Information Systems, as well as being able to support and communicate their solutions to such problems.

3.    To be able to search, interpret and select the relevant information in the areas of Information Systems, Multimedia Communication, Computer Networks and Software Development Methodologies and Platforms, taking into account the scientific, social and ethical impact of solutions based upon such information.

4.    To be able to communicate their ideas and solutions both to groups of specialists in IT and IS as well as to groups of conventional users.

5.    To be able to use the knowledge acquired to lifelong learning.
