Admissions and application procedures

Fees

Applicants holding a foreign level of secondary education:

Applicants who completed their secondary education abroad will need to validate their school-leaving exams, according to the Portuguese national exams required for admission at each study programme at UFP. The grades obtained in the required school-leaving exams must be at least 95 in the Portuguese scale that goes from 0 to 200.

The application documents must include:

a)    a copy of passport/identification document (applicants from outside the European Union must prove their legal status to reside in Portugal, according to the rules laid by the Foreigners Service / Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras);

b)    proof of recognition of secondary education  level, as issued by the competent Portuguese authorities;

c)     a statement from the Director-General of Higher Education, allowing the replacement of the national exams by the exams performed abroad;

d)    the completed application form given by UFP.

e)    Applicants whose native language is not English are required to demonstrate English proficiency by providing proof of (1) a minimum score of 213 on the computer based 79-80 in the Internet-based or 550 on the paper based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam, or (2) 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.

Note: to obtain the documents mentioned in lines b) and c), applicants must present a certificate that they hold a foreign secondary education level, its final grade and the grades of the required final exams. These documents must be authenticated by the official education services of their home country and recognised by the respective Portuguese diplomatic authorities (or to bear The Hague Convention stamp).



Applicants transferring from a foreign institution of higher education:

The application documents must include:

a)    a copy of passport/identification document (applicants from outside the European Union must prove their legal status to reside in Portugal, according to the rules laid by the Foreigners Service / Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras);

b)    a Transcript of Records of the academic curricular units performed at the home university, including all courses, syllabi, workload details and grades. This Transcript must be authenticated by the official education services of their home country and recognised by the respective Portuguese diplomatic authorities (or bear the Hague Convention stamp);

c)     the completed application form given by UFP.

d)    Applicants whose native language is not English are required to demonstrate English proficiency by providing proof of (1) a minimum score of 213 on the computer based 79-80 in the Internet-based or 550 on the paper based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam, or (2) 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.

Applicants to a graduate programme:

The application documents must include:

a) a copy of passport/identification document (applicants from outside the European Union must prove their legal status to reside in Portugal, according to the rules laid by the Foreigners Service/Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras);

b) a Transcript of Records of the academic curricular units performed at the home university, including all courses, syllabi, workload details and grades. This Transcript must be authenticated by the official education services of their home country and recognised by the respective Portuguese diplomatic authorities (or bear the Hague Convention stamp);

c) updated CV using the Europass model (link);

d) the completed application form given by UFP.

e)  Applicants whose native language is not English are required to demonstrate English proficiency by providing proof of (1) a minimum score of 213 on the computer based 79-80 in the Internet-based or 550 on the paper based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam, or (2) 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.

Applicants to a doctoral programme:

Applicants holding a master’s degree or equivalent qualifications:
> Applications throughout the year

  • Application form (.pdf version);
  • Supervisor's declaration of acceptance (.pdf version);
  • Dissertation proposal (.doc version);
  • Supervisor's report on the proposal (.pdf version);
  • plus documents mentioned in the last page of the Application form.

Applicants with a graduate degree plus a relevant scholar or scientific curricula:
> Applications throughout the year
  • Application form (.pdf version);
  • Supervisor's declaration of acceptance (.pdf version);
  • Dissertation proposal (.doc version);
  • Supervisor's report on the proposal (.pdf version);
  • plus documents mentioned in the last page of the Application form.

Applicants with a scholarly scientific or professional curriculum, and a confirmed track record in research:
> Applications throughout the year
  • Application form (.pdf version);
  • Supervisor's declaration of acceptance (.pdf version);
  • Dissertation proposal (.doc version);
  • Supervisor's report on the proposal (.pdf version);
  • plus documents mentioned in the last page of the Application form.

Please note:
  • Only complete applications will be considered.
  • There will be no refunds of payments made, nor return any of the application's documents.
  • After completing your application file, please deliver it to the Admissions’ Office.
