Master in Minority Studies

Main focus

The Master was developed from a decade at University Fernando Pessoa, together with the Centre de recherches tsiganes (University René Descartes - Paris V) and the research program on Minorities and Citizenship at University Fernando Pessoa. Its main focus consists in giving graduate students the opportunity to be involved in research projects and to prepare for intervention on minorities issues in NGOs, governmental bodies and international organizations.

Core seminars

The Master is composed of two semesters of specialized seminars, completed by one seminar of Master Dissertation. The main seminars include a wide range of subjects on the main aspects of research on Minorities. The seminars are completed by specific teaching sessions and tutorials on research methodology and Master Dissertation work.

Teaching Approach

Teaching sessions are organized in small groups, and include theoretical sessions, case-based seminars, simulation sessions, and online sessions. The pedagogical approach is characterized by the use of critical readings and group work. Upon completion, the participants should be competent on the methods and theories required to study the social, legal, and political aspects of minorities, as well as trained for conflict resolution and social intervention with minorities.
